Hi Tim, I grew up in the dotcom boom. Its actually getting worse. And we certainly look for experienced talent. Most of our clients are startups and I need "been there, done that" vs young up and comers. I can't speak for every company, but I can certainly speak for our portfolio. Thanks for reading.

While there is definitely a battle for talent, there is a big difference between the dot com BOOM and now. While there appears to be plenty of jobs, companies are being extremely selective on who they hire. While some managers will immediately jump on a candidate, others think that perfect candidate is out there if they wait long enough.

From what I have seen, there are some common traits to individuals who get hired quickly:
- Most are young, or relatively young
- Most have went to a top tier school or schools
- Most have multiple offers or at least give the impression they do
- Most use buzzwords in their interviews, but are not challenged on their knowledge of them
- Most have contacts at the company they are interested in and have strong relationships with the hiring manager or other key stakeholders

This leaves many individuals who are just as capable, just as eager, and just as driven but are ignored. While I admit I have not interacted with the recruiters from this firm yet, but they claim that they pride themselves on sourcing passive job seekers. For those, there is no battle for top talent, they get ignored. I hope I am wrong.
